The South Zealand New Africa Comedy Show
starring Barry Hilton (SA) and Mike King (NZ)
Household names in their respective countries, these two international comedians and friends, will perform together on stage in a side-splitting, no-holds barred comedy show at the Old Mill Theatre on 12 February 2012.
Barry Hilton’s unrehearsed performances, quick wit, animated physical antics and hilarious facial expressions leave audiences gasping for air. Internationally renowned, Barry has packed audiences in and around the world. He is as well-known for his humorous TV adverts and for the well-received movie Finding Lenny as he is for his hilarious stand-up comedy.
On stage with South Africa’s best-loved ‘cousin’ and comedian is Mike King, from New Zealand. Known for his entertaining, candid and thought-provoking brand of comedy, Mike King is one of New Zealand’s most popular comedians. Mike has performed at more international festivals than any other comedian from his country. A familiar face of New Zealand television, he has hosted numerous comedy series and specials.

Beautiful Beautiful Piano
Where were you when you heard My heart on will go on from Titanic for the first time? Can you remember the theme tune from the TV series Murder she wrote? And of course you know You Raise me Up by Josh Groban – but have you heard it with bagpipes? Did you also cry when you saw the movie Forrest Gump?
These are just a few of the jewels on Rocco’s new album. Memory from Cats, Don’t cry for me Argentina from Evita, I dreamed a dream from Les Mis are just a few of the beautiful, beautiful tunes! And then there is a bonus of an 8 minute ABBA Medley! Oh, and what will this collection be without the classic, classic Ballade for Adeline, Sleepy Shores and The Music Box Dancer?
Rocco tells all the tales that moved him to record the tunes and memories around all the music since he was a little boy in the Free State. Of course Rocco is well-spoken, well-dressed, well- rehearsed and well-shaped…
Beautiful, beautiful – head tot toe, inside out. In a world where we are constantly reminded of horror and fear, sometimes all we need is beautiful, beautiful piano music. 30 000 copies sold of this album. Now come and see the show!

Karen Zoid – Acoustic Show
Karen Zoid has become an important part of the South African music scene. Since releasing her first solo album, Poles Apart (2002), which fired the imagination of both critics and the public, Karen Zoid became an icon in the South- African market, which the press renamed the ‘Zoid Generation’. Zoid has become such an important part of the home grown scene that her name is now the byword for emotionally charged, downright incendiary South African rock music.
What’s more, through the last decade, Zoid has managed that unusual and frequently tricky feat of balancing popular appeal with critical praise; of securing an audience of both Afrikaans and English speakers; of retaining her individuality in a market known for its desire for sameness. And through it all, Zoid has held onto an enviable integrity that allows her to speak her mind in a way that only earns her more devotees and proved no barrier to being named Best Female Artist at the 2008 South African Music Awards.
Zoid’s super-charged rock energy is an ability to write gorgeous, delicately rendered songs that speak of the emotional vortex that drives this exceptional artist to keep creating. ‘Ultimate Zoid’, her latest album shows that Karen Zoid is South Africa’s premier female rock artist, full stop. She has shared the staged with international acts like John Mayer, Annie Lennox, Metallica, Simple Plan , Hothouse Flowers, Seal and UB40.
Over a career that has last nine years now, Zoid has earned various accolades (including gold album sales) but she says that what continues to drive her is a deep-seated desire to create music that she can get up on stage and play live. “When I was in that all-girl punk band, or busking or when I am playing to a huge crowd , the feeling I get from delivering my music is still the same – and that’s why I do this. All the stuff that goes around making an album – the promo, the interviews, making videos, the artwork … that’s work. Playing live? That’s what I love.”

Koos Kombuis
